QUEEN Margrethe II’s eldest son, Crown Prince Frederik is now King Frederik X of Denmark.
The new monarch was met with cheers from tens of thousands of supporters despite frigid weather.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen publicly proclaimed the 55-year old king’s accession from the balcony of the Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen – a tradition in place since the constitution of 1849.
There he delivered an emotional speech…
“Today, the throne passes on. My hope is to become a unifying king of tomorrow. It is a task I have approached all my life. It is a responsibility I take on with respect, pride and great joy,” King Frederik X, Denmark said.
This comes after the queen mother – the second longest-serving monarch in Danish history recently renounced her throne.
Now, the king’s son Crown Prince Christian is the new successor to the throne.
