Research adviser from Pampanga, proof that women are adamant in STEM

MRS. Lolita Bautista from Angeles City, Pampanga Science High School stood excellently for the second time in the International Science and Technology Fair (ISEF) held this year in Los Angeles, California.

“Girls nowadays are dreamers and goal-getters influenced by social media, a great avenue to see the opportunities that may come along with their choices in life,” stated Mrs. Lolita Bautista, Angeles City Science High School.

He is with learner-researchers Frances Gabrielle Bingcang, Hart Gabrielle Ong, and Jessica Loreen Yabut to present their research project In vitro study of Bioceramics from Bamboo (Bambusa blumeana) Leaves and Green Mussel (Perma viridis) Shells with Silver (AG) Coating and 3D Printing Applications for Bone Regeneration.

Although STEM is considered a male-dominated field, Ms. Lolita is very confident that her all-girls team is ready in all aspects of the competition and promises to give their whole heart and skills for the country.

“Women, when given the opportunity to pursue their interests in STEM, display their utmost potential and excel in their chosen field which makes them more productive and contributes to the nation’s innovation and progress,” she said.

A proof here is Ms. Lolita who has been constantly earning awards at the National Science and Technology Fair (NSTF) since she became a coach in 2016.

His former group also received an honorable mention at ISEF 2019 for their research project “Hibla: An Alternative Sound Absorption Material” in the Material Science category

Mrs. Lolita believes that the STEM industry in the country has achieved gender balance in terms of representation and participation. In addition, the diverse perspectives and experiences of each gender are well represented in various fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

“In STEM there is no limit, and there is no robot-type command on what to do, study, or become. It is huge and offers a boundless choice of professions that could empower you in your chosen niche,” she added.

Aside from Ms. Lolita and her team, six groups of learner-participants and coaches from NCR, Region III, and Region VII competed in ISEF from May 11-17, 2024
