AS the 2025 midterm elections approach, more politicians are declaring their candidacy for senatorial, congressional, and local positions.
Among them is Retired Col. Ariel Querubin, who is running for the Senate. His Senate bid has garnered support from hundreds of officials, generals, and former Armed forces and Police chiefs.
These supporters reportedly come from the past administrations of Arroyo, Aquino, Duterte, and Marcos.
Querubin stated that Filipinos’ extreme hardships and corruption of those in power have motivated him to run in the upcoming elections.
“Our fellow citizens are tired of hunger and hardship, we are tired of the continuous rise in prices and the lack of jobs for our workers. We are tired of the oppression and suppression of our rights, we are tired of the abuse, excesses, and theft by some in power. It is precisely these frustrations that fuel our desire for change, for a better future,” said Ret. Col. Ariel Querubin, Philippine Navy (Marines).
As a former soldier, he emphasized that if he wins, one of his priorities will be the modernization of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
“If we are fortunate enough to be in the Senate when we talk about modernizing the armed forces, it’s not just about their equipment but also their morale and their needs, we should modernize those too,” said Querubin.
Regarding his stance on disputed territories:
“In my view, the problem cannot be solved militarily. It also cannot be solved by spreading war. No one wants war, and the best way is through diplomacy,” he stated.
Currently a member of the Nationalista Party, Querubin is open to alliances with other parties that share the same goals and mission for Filipinos.
“We haven’t discussed party alliances yet. Although I’m still with the Nationalista Party, in case you ask about alliances, I’m currently focused on the needs of the Filipino people, what they want, and what we can do to help them. Alliances will come, but definitely, we will align with those who share our values and vision for the country,” he added.
Aside from the mentioned priorities, Ret. Col. Querubin also aims to promote the welfare and rights of women, improve education, and combat illegal drugs.
