MOSCOW alleged that ten Indonesians were among the foreign mercenaries hired by Ukraine to fight against Russia.
Of the ten fighters listed as mercenaries, four have already died. More than 13,000 foreigners had joined the conflict in Ukraine to fight against Russia, with an estimated 6,000 who lost their lives fighting another country’s war.
The Russian Defense Ministry released the breakdown of foreign mercenaries fighting for Ukraine last week, with Poland called out as “the undisputed leader” in terms of the number of mercenaries.
The Ukrainian ambassador to Indonesia, Vasyl Hamianin, denied Russia’s claims and challenged Moscow to provide clear evidence such as the identity of the foreign mercenaries and their photos.
The United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission said the Russia-Ukraine conflict had killed more than 10,000 civilians and injured nearly 20,000 others in the past two years.
