In a statement, Vershinin told state media Russia 24, quote-unquote, so far, one shipment of 20,000 tons of Russian fertilizers, has been transported to Malawi, and it took six months. More deliveries of fertilizers to Kenya and Nigeria are being prepared, but they have not yet been implemented.
“So far, one shipment [of Russian fertilizers] of 20,000 tons, has been transported to Malawi, and it took six months. More [deliveries of fertilizers] to Kenya and Nigeria are being prepared, but they have not yet been implemented,” said Sergey Vershinin, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia.
The decision comes amid uncertainty that the black sea grain deal will be continued.
The deal is concerned with the safe transportation of grain and foodstuffs from Ukrainian ports.
On the other hand, Russia was supposed to receive a sanctions reprieve for its own agricultural goods.
However, the Kremlin pointed out that only half of the agreement was being kept.
Currently, the Russian agricultural market is not directly being targeted by Western sanctions, but Russian banks are disconnected from SWIFT, which makes direct settlements for exports more difficult.
