Saudi Arabia likely to skip Ukraine Peace Summit in Switzerland

RUSSIA’s decision not to attend the upcoming Ukraine peace summit in Switzerland likely influenced Saudi Arabia to do the same, according to a German news agency citing diplomatic sources.

The peace summit will run from the 15th through the 16th of June.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was supposed to visit Saudi Arabia on the 1st of June to campaign support for the Ukrainians but the trip was postponed until after the summit.

In a speech delivered in Singapore on the 2nd of June, Zelenskyy accused China of influencing other countries not to attend by not participating in the event.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry explained that its conditions had not been met which include the participation of both Russia and Ukraine, hence, the reason for not attending the upcoming peace summit.

China is also advocating for an international peace conference that would give equal participation of all parties from Russia and Ukraine, with all peace proposals discussed in a fair and equal manner.
