Saudi Arabia offers conditions before normalizing ties with Israel

SAUDI Arabia reportedly asked the United States for security guarantees and help with its civilian nuclear program as a condition for normalizing ties with Israel.

The Kingdom is home to two of the world’s holiest sites and any deal between Israel and Saudi Arabia could potentially influence other Arab countries to formalize ties with the Jewish state.

Saudi Arabia’s demands for nuclear aid and other security assurances could be opposed by lawmakers in Washington although a deal is not impossible.

Meanwhile, The US State Department and the Israeli Embassy in Washington have not yet given their latest response on the matter.

To note, Saudi Arabia and the United States’ long-standing relationship was tested in October of last year after Saudi officials, in coordination with OPEC Plus, decided to cut oil production by 2 million barrels per day which angered Washington.

The proposal of a US-brokered peace deal between Saudi Arabia and Israel came at a time after China successfully helped in restoring ties between regional rivals Saudi and Iran, ending seven years of hostility.
