Sen. Binay files candidacy for Makati Mayor; Teams up with Former Cong. Del Rosario for Vice Mayor

Sen. Binay files candidacy for Makati Mayor; Teams up with Former Cong. Del Rosario for Vice Mayor

THERE’S no turning back! Senator Nancy Binay is firm in her decision to run for Makati City Mayor after filing her candidacy on the first day of the certificate of candidacy filing period.

The senator was joined by her running mate, former Congressman Monsour del Rosario, who is running for vice mayor.

One of Senator Nancy’s platforms is to continue the programs initiated by her father, former Vice President Jejomar Binay, in Makati.

“Makati is known for providing basic services to its constituents. We will enhance and improve these services,” said Senator Nancy Binay.

According to Del Rosario, their tandem is “very strong.”

“I’ve never seen a person I’ve worked with who has the sincerity and humility to really serve people that really deserves to be served. I worked with so many people already. I’ve come play with so many people but being with Senator Nancy keeps my feet on the ground,” said Monsour del Rosario.

The former Olympian prioritizes sports and health programs if he succeeds in the next election.

Senator Nancy becomes emotional over Makati Mayor Abby’s request

Senator Nancy Binay became emotional when asked about her sister, Makati Mayor Abby’s request for her to refrain from running for mayor in the city.

The senator is expected to face off against Mayor Abby’s husband, Congressman Luis Campos, in the election.

“Well, at the end of the day, my sister’s appeal is moot and academic because I have already filed. This is it—I have filed and am running for mayor. But for me, at the end of the day, I am still her older sister, right? We are still siblings,” added Senator Nancy.

“I’m on the verge of tears again. There’s just no chance for us to talk. It’s sad, isn’t it?” she added.

The senator emphasized that she and Mayor Abby are not enemies.

“We are still family, and our bond as family will prevail. For me, my sister is not my enemy. There is no Abby Binay on the ballot, and we are not at odds,” she said.

Senator Nancy did not rule out the possibility that Mayor Abby might talk to her husband about withdrawing his candidacy for mayor.

Ex-Makati Mayor Junjun Binay to Mayor Abby: “Support Our Sister Nancy”

Meanwhile, former Mayor Junjun Binay believes that Mayor Abby should support their older sister.

“The request now falls on Ate Abs, as she is running for Senate and receiving our full support in her bid for a Senate seat. Hopefully, she will also support Ate Nancy,” stated Junjun Binay, Former Makati Mayor.

Junjun added that Senator Nancy had been trying since last year to reach out to Mayor Abby’s camp to avoid a situation where family members compete against each other in the elections.

There was a meeting, but no follow-up occurred.

Rep. Luis Campos urged not to run, respect Ex-VP Binay’s Decision

Junjun also made a heartfelt plea to his brother-in-law.

“First of all, Luis is my brother-in-law, not a Binay. He wouldn’t have won his position without marrying into the Binay family. I hope he respects our father’s decision—Vice President Binay’s decision—that Ate Nancy should be the one to continue the progress in Makati,” Former Makati Mayor Junjun added.
