Senate to probe government’s flood control projects

SENATOR Mark Villar is deeply concerned about the recent severe flooding in Metro Manila and its nearby provinces.

For the first time, the floodwaters outside the Senate resembled a wave pool.

The situation was even worse in various locations.

In an exclusive ambush interview during the Villar Sipag Awards in Parañaque, Senator Villar expressed his shock at how the floodwaters reached the Senate and even covered its parking area up to knee level.

He stated that as a member of the Public Works Committee, he would submit a resolution for the Senate to immediately investigate the matter.

He mentioned that he wants to investigate the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

‘’We saw that it was the first time the Senate flooded. I will talk to the DPWH. I also want to know what’s new, and why the Senate and other areas flooded. We saw the effect, so we need to find out immediately what caused it,’’ Sen. Mark Villar said.

For Senator Villar, who is also a former DPWH Secretary, the reclamation projects in Manila Bay might have contributed to the severe flooding.

The Senate is located next to a reclamation site in Manila Bay.

He said that the DPWH should determine the root of the problem.
