THREE senators expressed concern over the political harassment experienced by Vice President Sara Duterte.
This follows the removal of seventy-five PNP personnel assigned to the Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group (VPSPG) without prior notice.
Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa was the first to call on former personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police to volunteer as security escorts for VP Inday.
Senator Bato appealed on his social media account after Vice President Inday Sara released an open letter to Philippine National Police Chief General Rommel Marbil.
In her letter, VP Inday called the act, political harassment and PNP Chief Marbil a liar.
Senator Robin Padilla echoed Senator Bato’s appeal on social media.
Padilla praised Bato, a former PNP Chief, for his actions. Padilla, then called on former rebels to volunteer as security escorts for the vice president.
“I am calling on all former rebels who have the proper documents of surrender and amnesty. Those of you skilled in pencak silat/kali/eskrima and willing to undergo training, screening, clearances, and approval by the Office of the Vice President,” Sen. Robinhood Padilla said.
Padilla wants former rebels skilled in martial arts to register at the Office of the Vice President.
The senator believes it is an honor to serve under Duterte’s leadership, who was the former vice-chairperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).
In relation to this, Senator Bong Go reminded the PNP not to be selective and to do their job correctly.
According to Go, the police should remain faithful to their sworn duty and not serve any political agenda.
“We love you. However, I request, especially during these challenging times in our country, that I remind the leadership and the entire national police force to remain faithful to their sworn duty and not be used for any political agenda,” Sen. Bong Go said.
Go revealed that apart from VP Sara, he was also among those whose security personnel were withdrawn by the PNP three weeks ago.
