SOUTH Korea’s spy agency is looking into suspicions that weapons made by North Korea in the 1970s were being supplied to the Russian military and being used in its war in Ukraine.
The National Intelligence Service (NIS) made the move after local media reported that 12 millimeters of artillery shells manufactured by North Korea in the 1970s were part of the weapons used by Russia in its ongoing war against Ukraine.
Korean letters were reportedly found inscribed on rocket shells last year.
The spy agency said it is now tracking the military cooperation between North Korea and Russia.
North allegedly shipped an estimated 6,700 containers to Russia since September of last year, according to South Korea’s defense ministry.
The said containers are enough to accommodate approximately 3 million rounds of 152-millimeter artillery shells.
South Korean officials also accused North Korea of supplying Russia with weapons in exchange for food.
