South Korean lawmaker attacked by ’15-year-old’ assailant

BAE Hyun-Jin, a parliamentarian from the People Power Party of South Korea was reportedly struck in the head by an assailant who claims to be 15 years old.

According to reports, just moments before the attack, the suspect talked to Bae and asked for her name.

Bae was reportedly struck 17 times in the head within an 18-second timeframe and was transported  to Soonchunhyang University Hospital with head bleeding.

South Korean police arrested the attacker, and not much is known about the minor and the reason behind the attack is still being investigated.

It can be noted however that South Korea is set to hold the next legislative elections later this year.

Ruling People Party Spokesman Jung Hee-yong called for a thorough investigation of the incident and stern action against the perpetrator.

The incident comes following the assassination attempt of Democratic Party Leader Lee Jae-myung, who was stabbed in the neck earlier January.

Lee also condemned the attack against Bae, saying that no political terrorism should every be tolerated.

And that he is praying for the recovery of Bae.

“Any kind of political terrorism should not be tolerated. We need to respond thoroughly and decisively. Praying for the speedy recovery of congressman Bae Hyun-jin,” according to Lee Jae-myung, Democratic Party Leader, South Korea.
