THE number of people who died from a stampede in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh rose to 107 within 24 hours.
The incident happened during a religious gathering on Tuesday known as Satsang.
Chaos broke out as the event came to an end, with people running from all places, resulting in a stampede and dozens of bodies getting crushed.
Some of the victims died of suffocation.
Most of the people who died were women.
The weather was very hot and humid which caused a great deal of discomfort among attendees.
The crowd capacity during the event was more than three times the permitted number.
