State of emergency as Ecuador’s most wanted criminal escapes prison

THOUSANDS of authorities joined a massive manhunt to locate one of the “most-wanted” criminals in Ecuador.

Notorious drug lord Jose Adolfo Macias, known by his alias “Fito” leads the notorious Los Choneros criminal gang.

He disappeared from his prison cell in Guayaquil on Sunday where he was serving a 34-year sentence.

The drug cartel based in Manabi Province is accused of carrying out extortions, murders, contract killings, drug trafficking, and other crimes.

Many of the gang’s members were included in Ecuador’s most wanted list.

Military and police commanders in Ecuador were instructed to impose stricter control in prisons nationwide after his disappearance.

His escape urged the government to declare a 60-day massive manhunt.
