Successful recovery of illegal fossilized giant clam shells in Busuanga, Palawan

A Joint Law Enforcement Operation (JLEO) has been carried out to thwart the illegal stocking of fossilized giant clam shells along the shores of Dipulonggit Island, Barangay Concepcion, Busuanga, Palawan.

A collaborative effort between the Coast Guard Intelligence Group Palawan (CGIG-PAL), Coast Guard Command Outpost Concepcion (CGCOP), Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Wildlife Enforcement Office (PCSD-WEO), PNP Maritime Group, and Barangay Officials of Brgy. Concepcion resulted in the successful recovery of approximately 300 pieces, weighing an estimated 3,000 kilograms, of the fossilized giant clam shell, locally known as “TAKLOBO.”

Underneath concealed nets and hidden from plain sight, the team uncovered a significant volume of fossilized giant clam shells, signaling a concerning trend in illegal activity. Prompt action was taken, and following this operation, PCSD Coron will initiate a thorough investigation to identify those accountable for this blatant disregard for environmental preservation.

The confiscated clam shells, will be entrusted to the custody of LGU Concepcion.
