TALKS between warring factions in Sudan resumed in Saudi Arabia as fierce fighting continues in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum.
Ceasefire talks resumed between the Sudanese army and the powerful paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) resumed in the kingdom on Sunday.
The streets of Khartoum and nearby areas, including the Darfur region, were bombarded with heavy fighting on Saturday.
Fierce fighting ensued despite the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF)paramilitary force signing a “declaration of principles” last week.
The ongoing violence however showed little sign that the two rival powers struggling to take control of Sudan are respecting the declaration that promised to protect civilians.
The conflict has killed hundreds of people, sent more than 200,000 into neighboring states, and displaced another 700,000 inside the country since it started on April 15.
Saudi Arabia has invited the army chief of Sudan’s army to attend the 32nd Arab League summit in Jeddah on Friday, May 19.
