SUNLIGHT can quickly destroy coronavirus according to a new study by a senior US official.
The official hopes to ease the spread of the virus during the summer.
According to William Bryan of science and technology advisor to the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, the powerful effect of solar light appears to be killing the virus on both surfaces and in the air.
“We’ve seen a similar effect with both temperature and humidity as well, where increasing the temperature and humidity or both is generally less favorable to the virus,” he said.
Bryan presented a slide summarizing the results of their experiment conducted at the National Biodefense Analysis and Countermeasures Center.
According to Bryan’s conclusion, during the summer it is expected to create a reduction in disease transmission.
However, he warned that the reduction in the spread of the disease does not mean that the pathogen is permanently removed and that social distancing is still necessary.
