Super Bowl parade attack leaves at least 1 dead, 22 injured

AT least 1 person was killed while 22 were injured at a shooting incident in Missouri, USA, during a Super Bowl parade celebrating the Kansas City Chiefs victory.

Authorities have detained 3 suspects so far for investigation.

Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves described the incident as a tragedy, and that more people will forever be affected by what happened.

“There are a lot more people who are going to be forever impacted by what happened here today.”

The shooting victims were sent to several hospitals in the area, and among the 22 injured, 8 people suffered immediately life-threatening injuries.

9 children aged six to fifteen were also among the wounded, and they are expected to recover.

Reports said Kansas City Chiefs players were still on a stage when the first gunshots rang out.

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas said he was inside of the Union Station when he heard the gunshots, and upon hearing them, he and his family members started running.

“I was there with my wife, I was there with my mother. I never would’ve thought that we, along with Chiefs players, along with fans, hundreds of thousands of people, would be forced to run for our safety today,” Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas stressed.

A video, circulating online, shows the incident that occurred near union station, where people were trying to avoid being caught in the crosshairs of the shooters.

One of the attendees, Paul Contreras, reportedly tackled an alleged shooter before police got to him.

After the man was tackled, police swarmed the area where they found a gun.

Around 800 police officers were at the Super Bowl Parade where nearly 1 million people were expected to join the celebration.

Police chief graves said the police officers responded immediately after the gunshots broke out.

The detectives who were on the scene quickly opened a probe.

Kansas City officials did not release the names of the victims, they also did not disclose any information about the 3 arrested suspects, and the motive for the incident remains unclear.

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden addressed the incident and the epidemic of gun violence in the united states. He also called for gun reform and ban on assault rifles in the country.

“Today’s events should move us, shock us, shame us into acting. What are we waiting for? What else do we need to see? How many more families need to be torn apart?” Pres. Joe Biden, United States of America said.
