THE government of Sweden beefed up its security plans after it designated Russia as its biggest threat.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, together with the country’s defense minister and the national security adviser, presented a new national strategy during a recent conference in Stockholm.
The senior officials said the threat to Sweden is “broad and serious.”
Defense Minister Pal Jonson called Russia the Nordic country’s biggest and most serious threat to its national security as it expressed high ambitions for its rearmament.
Jonson also accused China, Russia’s closest ally, as among the nations trying to strengthen its influence and challenge the “rules-based world order.”
Sweden’s new national security strategy was published on Monday and will take effect until 2030.
