Sweden offers fighter jets to Ukraine in exchange for NATO membership

IN a recent press conference, Swedish Defense Minister Pal Jonson said it could give Ukraine 2.2 billion Swedish krona or the equivalent of 190 million euros worth of military equipment along with its Jas Gripen fighter jets.

A large portion of the aid consists of 155-millimeter caliber ammunition and spare parts for weapons systems Sweden has already provided to Ukraine.

Additionally, the Nordic country will also supply Kyiv with satellite communication equipment and will train Ukrainian soldiers.

Jonson however said that the Swedish warplanes will only be sent to Ukraine after the Nordic country is allowed into NATO.

The move is part of an ongoing diplomatic effort to persuade Turkiye to drop its objection to Sweden’s bid for NATO membership.

It will be Sweden’s 14th military aid package to Ukraine since the Russian invasion, with the total value of the aid to have reached around 1.9 billion euros.
