Sweden to send over $300-M in military aid to Ukraine

SWEDEN’S new military package bound for Ukraine includes ammunition and spare parts valued at around 3.4 billion crowns or $313.5 million which would be used for CV-90 Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFV), archer artillery systems, and Leopard 2 tanks.

The aid will also include mine-clearing equipment and ammunition for air-defense systems to prevent Russia from achieving air supremacy in Ukraine.

Swedish Defense Minister Pal Jonson said the country must prepare for the fact that the conflict could be a long-lasting war and that sending weapons to Ukraine could still take longer.

Since January, Sweden has pledged to send its modern and powerful archer artillery system as well as Next Generation Light Anti-tank Weapon (NLAW) shoulder-launched anti-tank missiles.

As part of its 12th military package, Sweden announced it will allow Ukrainian pilots to start the test flight for Swedish Saab Jas 39 Gripen fighter jets which are said to be one of the most reliable and best military aircraft in the world.

The first 12 military aid packages sent by the Scandinavian country to Ukraine have been valued at around 17 billion kronor ($1.6 billion) in total.

Sweden has also donated around 5.2 billion kronor in humanitarian and civilian aid for the people of Ukraine.
