“The elections of the Taiwan region are local affairs of China. The election results reveal that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) cannot represent the mainstream public opinion on the island. The results will not sway the status and fact that Taiwan is part of China, will not change the basic landscape and development trend of cross-Strait relations, and will not impede the inevitable historical trend of China’s reunification. We will firmly adhere to the 1992 Consensus that embodies the one-China principle,” Spokesman, Taiwan Affairs Office of China State Council Chen Binhua said.
“We’ll take firm and strong actions to oppose separatist attempts for ‘Taiwan secession’, with the indestructible abilities to smash separatist activities and safeguard national sovereignty, and the unwavering will to resolve the Taiwan question and realize China’s complete reunification. ‘Removing the DPP from power,’ opposing ‘Taiwan secession,’ advocating for peace instead of war, pursuing development rather than recession, promoting communication over separation, these are the mainstream public opinions within Taiwan,” he added.
