THE Prime Minister of Thailand held talks recently with China’s top diplomat wherein the latter expressed its appreciation for Thailand for upholding the One-China principle.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told his counterpart Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin of Beijing’s hope that Thailand will continue to understand and support China’s cause for reunification.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, told Srettha the Taiwan question is a matter of sovereignty and territorial integrity of China.
China’s top diplomat made the statement after Srettha said that Thailand puts great importance on its relationship with China and firmly supports the one-China policy.
The Prime Minister expressed willingness to strengthen ties with China and for Thailand to actively participate in the Belt and Road Initiative.
Both leaders attended the signing ceremony of a protocol to mark the export of Thai agricultural products to China.
Wang also acknowledged Srettha’s decision to make China the first country outside the Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN for an official visit after assuming office as Prime Minister last year.
