Meanwhile, two of the biggest parties in the coalition, Move Forward Party and Pheu Thai, each got a candidate endorsed for the two deputy speaker posts.

The new choice for the new house speaker was a good compromise between the Move Forward Party and Pheu Thai.

It will also give Move Forward leader Pita Limjaroenrat’s prime ministerial ambitions a boost, as local senators could possibly give him their support for the top job.

The house speaker position is a highly coveted post due to its power of passing legislations.

Challenges however remain for Mr. Pita, with the whole country waiting for the announcement of the new prime minister.
