THE Department of Tourism (DOT), led by Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco, proudly announces that the Philippines will host the first-ever Terra Madre Asia Pacific in Bacolod City in 2025, marking a significant milestone as the city is named the Slow Food International Hub for Asia Pacific. This event underscores the DOT’s commitment to making the Philippines a global gastronomy hub.
Terra Madre, an initiative of the global Slow Food movement, celebrates traditional food cultures, counters fast-paced consumerism, and strengthens people’s connection to food. Since its founding in 1989, Slow Food has grown into a worldwide movement in over 160 countries, advocating for food that is good, clean, and fair for all, while emphasizing food’s cultural and environmental impact.
Under Secretary Frasco’s leadership, the DOT has prioritized food and gastronomy tourism as an essential part of the nation’s heritage. This includes promoting Slow Food principles to foster sustainable tourism and to elevate Filipino cuisine on the global stage. Hosting Terra Madre Asia Pacific represents a step towards realizing the Marcos Administration’s vision of the Philippines as a culinary destination.
Secretary Frasco also noted that the Slow Food movement in the Philippines is elevating local destinations by promoting sustainability, regenerating natural resources, and expanding economic opportunities across the nation.
