TWO explosions which happened a few minutes apart struck a crowd while observing the fourth anniversary of the assassination of General Qasem SoleimaniThousands struggle access to water, electricity in Japan’s quake zones.
Soleimani, who was the commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and considered the second most powerful person in Iran at that time, was killed by a U.S. drone strike in Baghdad, Iraq in January 2020.
The twin blasts which took place near his gravesite at Kerman Martyrs Cemetery in southeastern Iran killed more than 100 people and injured over 200 on Wednesday.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack and the cause remains unclear.
Iranian officials described the twin blasts as a “terrorist attack.”
Iran’s deputy parliament speaker claimed that the attack showed signs of an Israeli assault.
The United States however denied that Washington and Israel are responsible and pointed out the possible role of the Islamic State or some affiliated Sunni extremist group for the terror attack.
Iranian leaders vowed revenge while their supreme leader Ali Khamenei warned of a harsh response.
