U.S. national crosses DMZ from South Korea to North Korea

ON Tuesday, the United Nations (UN) Command said a U.S. citizen has crossed over from South Korea to North Korea without authorization.

Reports say the defector was a US soldier, however, it still remains unclear whether the individual was stationed in South Korea or was only visiting as a tourist. This is still to be determined.

The Joint Security Area (JSA) located in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) which stretches along the military demarcation line which the US national crossed, serves as the line dividing South and North Korea.

Currently the un command believes the US national is in North Korean custody adding they are working with their Korean People’s Army (KPA) counterparts to solve the issue.

To note, Korean People’s Army is the North Korean military.

Meanwhile, South Korea’s joint chief staff alluded the incident to the un command and has declined to give any comment regarding the matter.
