THE CV-22 Osprey aircraft were allowed to operate in the skies of Japan once more starting on Thursday.
The move sparked concerns among residents in Okinawa given that the military aircraft has a troubled history linked to a string of deadly crashes in recent years.
In November 2023, a U.S. Air Force CV-22 Osprey crashed on the island of Yakushima in southwestern Japan killing all eight crew members.
The deadly Air Force Special Operations forced the U.S. military to ground the entire fleet after their counterparts in Japan requested them to do so.
The governor of Okinawa and some residents are still asking for an explanation for the tragic crash that involved the troubled aircraft.
Most of the Osprey aircraft used by the U.S. military have been deployed in the Okinawa Prefecture, where most of the American troops in Japan are based.
