THE number of homeless individuals in the United States continues to rise in 2023, where the leading cities have experienced an unusual surge in this count.
According to data obtained by the Wall Street Journal, the state of Chicago, Miami, Boston, and Phoenix have reported increases in homelessness.
The data covers sixty-seven to a hundred places with the highest number of homeless individuals last year.
Among these places, forty-eight have reported a significant increase in the number of homeless this year compared to the previous year.
Meanwhile, New York City and Los Angeles have yet to report their data, with these two cities having had the highest homeless population in the country and are expected to experience an increase this year.
The high level of homelessness has led to an increase in crime in major cities across America.
Residents in major cities in California are also fleeing to more stable states such as Texas and Colorado for better quality of life.
Meanwhile, the number of migrants arriving in New York City continues to rise following the surge of these individuals at the U.S.-Mexico border.
