THE violent clashes between the Irish police and protesters in the central part of Dublin occurred due to a stabbing incident in the capital earlier in the day, which left 3 children and 2 adults injured.
The clashes came after a man in his 50s was detained by police after he allegedly stabbed several people in Parnell Square, in the city’s center.
Authorities have not revealed the nationality of the suspect.
Meanwhile, about 50 anti-immigrant protesters intensified the situation, breaking through police barriers and setting a bus on fire.
Additional reports include smashed windows at a Holiday Inn, a McDonald’s, and looting at a Footlocker.
Public transport was halted after a train was reportedly set on fire, and 400 officers were deployed to restore order.
The Irish police also arrested 34 individuals, and 32 were charged in court.
Meanwhile, as a result of the violence in Dublin, authorities said 7 vehicles were damaged by fire, including 3 buses and 1 Luas tram, 11 Garda vehicles were extensively damaged, 13 properties were attacked and substantially damaged and a number of Gardaí were injured.
Irish Garda Commissioner Drew Harris attributed the violence to a “far-right” faction.
