VP Sara Duterte’s “silence” helped maintain high ratings—Atty. Roque

FORMER Presidential Spokesperson Atty. Harry Roque commented on the possible reason why Vice President Sara Duterte continues to maintain high ratings despite the propaganda thrown at her.

“VP Sara knows when to engage in politics, and when to focus on work,” said Atty. Harry Roque – Former Presidential Spokesperson.

This is the perceived reason by Former Presidential Spokesperson Atty. Harry Roque as to why— until now, Vice President Sara Duterte remains the most trusted government official in the Philippines based on surveys.

In the Publicus Asia Inc. survey, VP Sara obtained a 53% approval and 46% trust rating in the first quarter of 2024.

In the Pulse Asia survey, VP Inday has a 67 percent performance rating and a 71 percent trust rating.

Roque pointed out the persisting high confidence and trust of Filipinos in VP Sara despite the propaganda hurled at her— which include issues on the confidential funds, the international criminal court, among others.

According to Roque, it’s a big deal that despite these noises, VP Sara remains quiet.

“If she’s only interested in politics, what would she have done? She would have continuously opposed the policies of the president that she deemed wrong.”

“VP Sara speaks on matters that affect all Filipinos, such as peace and order. Her opposition, like engaging with the terrorist NPA.”

“But when it comes to foreign policy. I know she has a different belief from Pres. Marcos. But she remains silent. She’s criticized for being silent on the West Philippine Sea (WPS) issue. Why should she speak up first? Foreign policy is the duty of the president” added Atty. Roque.

Another characteristic seen by Roque in VP Sara, which he said the public likely appreciates, is her ability to be her own person and not letting anyone boss her around.

Meanwhile, Roque believes that House Speaker Martin Romualdez’s early politicking is the reason why his approval and trust ratings continue to plummet, which is actually lower than the Supreme Court Chief Justice, who is not as well-known by many Filipinos.
