ALEXANDER Lukashenko, the President of Belarus, said that Russia has already deployed a significant part of the tactical nuclear weapons that it plans to transfer to his country.
The president of Belarus said that Poland and other countries believe that Wagner will guard the nuclear weapons, if and when Wagner becomes active in the said country.
But Lukashenko refuted their claims.
“The Poles and others think that Wagner will guard nuclear weapons and so on. No nuclear weapons will be guarded by Wagner.”
“Wagner will not guard nuclear weapons. This is our job. And it is my personal responsibility to secure the weapons first and foremost. We’ll never go for that. We have enough guys who are capable of guarding this facility along with the Russians,” said President Alexander Lukashenko, Belarus.
On June 16, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the first batch of the tactical nuclear weapons has been transported to Belarus, and that the move had been prompted by the United Kingdom’s decision to provide Ukraine with depleted uranium munitions amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Lukashenko had been asking Russia, its closest ally, to deploy nuclear weapons on Belarus due to aggressive Western policies towards his country and the threat posed by US nuclear weapons that are deployed in countries near Belarus.
Lukashenko’s words came following reports that a Russian independent news outlet Vertska wrote that a camp for 8,000 fighters is being built near Asipovichy, Mogilev Oblast, which is around 200 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
But the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine denied information about the start of the construction of camps to accommodate Wagner soldiers in Belarus.
State Border Guard Service of Ukraine spokesman, Andriy Demchenko, said that there’s no evidence of the construction of Wagner camps, but at the same time, the said issue cannot be ruled out.
Meanwhile, Wagner Chief and Founder Yevgeny Prigozhin already arrived in Belarus via his private jet on Tuesday.
And the criminal investigation against him had been dropped.
