PROF. Anna Malindog-Uy raises concerns about the real reason behind the Philippine government’s decision to host Afghan nationals en route to the U.S., suggesting alternative options such as processing in the U.S. or nearby Canada.
“What’s the real reason why the current government would accept Afghan nationals na mag-in-transit sa Pilipinas, para mag-process ng visa? Pwede naman dumiretso na sila sa mainland United States para doon mismo mag-process ng visa.”
“Kasi may facilities naman sa US, where they can host and place these people, doon muna sila habang pinuproseso ang visa nila. Marami nang ganoong instances. Or in any case, sa backyard nila; Canada is there na mas malapit, ‘di ba? Pero bakit sa Pilipinas?” ayon kay Prof. Anna Malindog-Uy, Geopolitical Analyst.
