World heritage tour to feature China’s Quanzhou City’s rich culture and history

SMNI News together with other media companies from the Philippines was given the opportunity for a world heritage tour in Quanzhou in Fujian Province, China.

Sunday afternoon, the Philippine media delegation arrived at the Quanzhou Jinjiang International Airport after a two-hour flight.

The delegation received a warm welcome at a special banquet at a 5-star hotel in the city hosted by the Quanzhou Overseas Friendship Association.

We explored the rich culture of Quanzhou for a week as well as visited the city’s history as one of China’s most important ports on the Maritime Silk Road.

Quanzhou was one of the largest and busiest ports in the world during the Song and Yuan dynasties and an important exchange hub for various civilizations and religions.

“You will get a better idea of what our ancestors may have contributed to the prosperity of Quanzhou which was the Emporium of the World in Song-Yuan China. How they did it,” Dr. John Wang, UNESCO Silk Road Project, Consulting Expert said.

“I think it is a good idea that we learn from historical wisdom and then make our community a better place to live. That’s what we learn from our ancestors,” Wang said.

It can be remembered that on July 25 2021, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee recognized Quanzhou as a World Heritage Site.

The world heritage tour aims to foster cooperation between media organizations, enhance mutual understanding and friendship between people, and contribute to further developing China-Philippines relations.

Dr. John Wang, Consulting Expert on the UNESCO Silk Road Project, believes that these kinds of cultural exchanges together with economic cooperation will result in global peace.

“I think the cultural exchange and economic exchange can foster world peace. And that is the mind set of an entrepreneur. And we can make the world a better place, by trade and not by war,” Wang added.
