THE ongoing fighting between Israel and Hamas showed signs of escalating into a broader regional conflict as Yemen’s Houthi rebels and Lebanon’s Hezbollah group entered the scene.
Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for launching several drone and missile attacks toward Israel since the Israel-Hamas war started on October 7.
Besides the Lebanon-based Hezbollah, the Houthis pose a big threat to Israel despite being 1,600km away.
The Yemeni rebels vowed to keep on attacking Israeli ships passing through the Red Sea and to continue pounding Israel with missiles and drones as long as the war in Gaza continues.
The group also warned that the Israel-Palestine conflict is bound to widen in the event the US continues to support Israel in its expanding military escalation on Gaza.
The Houthi, Hezbollah, and Hamas are all part of the so-called “Axis of Resistance” – a military coalition led by Iran and boasts of 100,000 fighters.
