2,000 drones illuminate Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour in space-themed display

The night sky above Victoria Harbour became a shining digital canvas for Hong Kong‘s latest high-tech visual feat.

Two thousand synchronized drones illuminated Victoria Harbour on Saturday night, forming massive three-dimensional visual displays of rockets, orbiting planets, and walking astronauts above the New Hung Hom Harbourfront.

Thousands of spectators gathered along the waterfront promenade to view the fifteen-minute performance, which marked the conclusion of a two-night aerial show celebrating space exploration and Chinese cultural heritage.

“In general drone shows are nice to have. It is good for tourists, but also for the people who live in the city. Because every time you have a drone show, you can display different motifs and different teams,’’ Hans-Tourist said.

The high-tech spectacle coincided with national aerospace milestones, following Saturday’s launch of a Long March-4B rocket carrying six remote-sensing satellites into orbit from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre.

Hong Kong tourism officials continue to integrate large-scale drone light shows into waterfront programming to attract international visitors and boost the local night economy.
