Gaza death toll rises to over 35-K amid escalating conflict

THE death toll in Gaza has climbed to over 35,000, with 57 Palestinians killed and 82 wounded in the past 24 hours, according to health authorities.

Israeli forces targeted over 120 sites in Gaza, conducting ground operations from north to south. In Rafah, southern Gaza, clashes resulted in several Hamas militants’ deaths, while in Jabalia, northern Gaza, airstrikes hit Hamas targets.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the military operation would continue, aiming for victory and the return of hostages. However, he faced protests during Memorial Day events.

Meanwhile, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad launched counterattacks, causing casualties and destroying military vehicles.

On Monday, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) that around 360,000 Palestinians fled Rafah in the past week.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed the humanitarian impacts of the conflict, particularly in Rafah, where more than 1.4 million Palestinians are affected by the closure of the Rafah crossing.
