MARINA to roll out online services for seafarers

THE Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) is set to roll out online services for seafarers and stakeholders starting July 1 as part of efforts to streamline maritime-related processes and applications.

During the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas on Tuesday, MARINA NCR Director Engr. Marc Anthony Pascua said the agency’s online services is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to digitalize government transactions.

“Lahat po ng processes natin magiging online na po. Naka QR code na mula umpisa hanggang matapos,” said Pascua.

Forming part of the 10-point Maritime Agenda is the rollout of the MARINA Blockchain-Enabled Automatic Certification System (BEST), according to Pascua

With the QR code, Pascua added that MARINA partner agencies in the maritime sector, such as the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), can easily check the authenticity of documents.

“Itsi-check na ng ating mga enforcers ang QR code and that will verify kung nakaregister po sa amin para maiwasan natin ang fraudulent and spurious documents,” he added.

Pascua likewise mentioned the proposed MARINA organizational and pattern as well as extension offices for 2025, explaining that the plan will strengthen MARINA in pushing for the welfare and rights of Filipino seafarers.

“We really need to strengthen our capabilities in ensuring the safety of maritime stakeholders,” Engr. Pascua said.
