Bong Go extends assistance to flood and landslide victims in Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occ.

IN his continuous efforts to support communities affected by calamities, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go’s Malasakit Team led a relief operation on Friday, October 11, in Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental, assisting residents affected by a recent weather disturbance.

The senator highlighted the importance of resilience in times of disaster and emphasized the need for a unified effort to ensure the welfare of Filipinos.

“Mga kababayan, ang buhay po ang pinakaimportante. Ang mga nawalang ari-arian ay kaya nating palitan, ngunit ang buhay ay hindi na maibabalik. Kaya mag-ingat po tayo at magtulungan sa panahon ng sakuna,” Go encouraged the victims.

Go continues to push for the passage of Senate Bill No. 188, also known as the Department of Disaster Resilience (DDR) Act. This bill aims to establish a specialized cabinet-level department committed to developing and assisting communities to be adaptable, disaster-resilient, and secure.

“Ibig sabihin, ito na po ang makikipag-coordinate bago dumating ang bagyo, preposition of goods, and coordination with LGUs para ilikas po ang mga kababayan natin sa ligtas na lugar. At pag-alis ng bagyo ay restoration of normalcy kaagad at rehabilitation efforts para tuluy-tuloy po silang makabangon,” he explained.

Go also co-sponsored and is one of the authors of SBN 2451, also known as the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act. This bill aims to establish fully functional mandatory evacuation centers in strategic locations nationwide.

During the event, held at the Barangay Butulan gym, in coordination with Mayor Jason John Joyce, Go’s Malasakit Team distributed relief packages, including snacks, grocery packs, vitamins, masks, and shirts to around 42 affected families. Selected beneficiaries also received shoes, bicycles, sling bags, basketballs, and volleyballs.

The National Housing Authority was also present at the event, assessing qualified recipients who may qualify for its Emergency Housing Assistance Program (EHAP). There were also representatives from other agencies to assess residents for additional financial assistance.

The senator vowed to continue supporting other disaster-stricken areas, emphasizing the importance of preparedness and cooperation in building a more resilient Philippines.

“Bilang inyong lingkod, hindi po ako magsasawa sa pagtulong at pagsuporta sa inyo. Lagi po akong nandito para sa ating mga kababayan, dahil bisyo ko ang magserbisyo,” Mr. Malasakit concluded.
