AN intense rainfall hit Acre, Brazil, and the embankments of the Acre River which runs through the state were breached as water levels surged after continuous rainfall pummeled the region last week.
Over 12,000 people across 23 Brazilian cities, towns and counties have been displaced.
Authorities have been doing what they can to respond to the emergency situation.
Rio Branco, Acre’s capital, is among the regions heavily affected by the floods.
The capital’s civil defense department released a video showing large areas of land and many buildings submerged in floodwater after the river burst its banks.
According to the local rescue department, hundreds of households have been evacuated over the past few days,
Most of them have been transferred to the makeshift settlements built by the municipal government.
Currently, the water levels River Acre gradually receding, but some low-lying areas remain flooded and several road sections remain closed to traffic.
