Cannon ceremony marks end of Ramadan in Dubai

DUBAI joined its Arab neighbors in celebrating Eid al-Fitr on Friday which was confirmed following the sighting of the crescent moon in Saudi Arabia.

To mark the annual holiday, UAE and Saudi Arabia have declared a four-day weekend, Qatar has announced an 11-day holiday, while Oman and Kuwait will observe a five-day weekend. The Eid al Fitr festival signifies not only the end of the Islamic holy month of fasting but also a time of joy and celebration for families and friends as they come together to enjoy the festivities.

The Dubai Police revealed the seven locations across the city where the public can witness the annual firing of cannons. These cannons can be heard as far as 10 kilometers and are managed by the police. The UAE has been observing the yearly tradition since the 1960s.

During this period, the Dubai Municipality intensifies its inspection of hotel establishments to ensure compliance with health procedures as well as the safety of guests during the blessed Eid al-Fitr holiday.

The annual firing of cannons in Dubai is a reminder of its importance in the community and how traditions can still exist in the modern world.
