Davao region celebrates 1st anniversary of being insurgency-free

AFTER years of battling the terrorist group CPP-NPA-NDF, the Davao Region celebrated its first anniversary as an insurgency-free zone in Davao City.

Under the theme “Resilience and Unity: Celebrating a Year of Peace,” the event was graced by Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte and Vice Mayor Jay Melchor Quitain Jr.

It marked the region’s first year of liberation from the clutches of the CPP-NPA-NDF and served as a tribute to the bravery and unity of the military and government forces in finally suppressing the long-standing insurgency in the region.

“This day is for the men and women in uniform; you are indeed the heroes, even from the years before,” according to Hon. Sebastian ‘Baste’ Duterte- Mayor, Davao City.

“We have achieved the great feel. We have made Davao City insurgency free which is the first year of commemorating this. We might have achieved that but we are now going to the next challenge which is to sustain it and to maintain the peace that we are now enjoying,” Hon. Jay Melchor Quitain- Vice Mayor, Davao City said.

The celebration was also attended by Davao de Oro Vice Governor Hon. Jayvee Tyron Uy, PRO XI Regional Director – PBGen. Alden Delvo, along with other local government officials and personalities.

It’s worth noting that the province of Davao del Sur was first declared insurgency-free in the last quarter of 2021, followed by Davao del Norte on June 2, 2022, Davao Occidental on June 16, 2022, Davao de Oro on June 20, 2022, Davao City on June 28, 2022, and Davao Oriental on September 19, 2022.
