AN entourage of 200 business people accompanied Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as he visited Saudi Arabia during the first leg of his three-day visit to the Gulf region.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman welcomed the Turkish President Erdogan with an official ceremony, followed by a delegation-level meeting focused on economic cooperation as well as regional and international issues will be on the agenda.
His trip to Saudi Arabia will be followed by a visit to the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.
Business forums have been arranged during his three-day trip in the region this week.
The trip comes as Turkiye battles a currency collapse and soaring inflation.
According to some senior Turkish officials, Türkiye expects Gulf countries to make direct investments of about $10 billion as part of Erdogan’s trip, and for it to reach $30 billion over time.
Saudi trade with Turkey has grown the fastest of all the countries in the Gulf region, with bilateral trade between the two states reaching $6.5 billion in 2022.
