New flood control structure strengthens disaster resiliency of Brgy. Novaliches Proper, QC

TO safeguard communities against frequent flooding, the Department of Public Works and Highways – Quezon City 1st District Engineering Office completed the construction of a revetment wall in Barangay Novaliches Proper, Quezon City.

This project, stretching 181 linear meters, was built along the riverbanks of Tullahan River, where the soil typically weakens and erodes during excessive rainfall.

Constructed with structural concrete, and reinforcing steel, the flood control structure is designed to provide a long-term solution to the recurring threat of flooding, and soil erosion frequently experienced by residents during heavy downpours.

Furthermore, when combined with proper drainage and vegetation control, the revetment and retaining wall can help restore the river’s edge, reduce pollution, and support local ecosystems in the area.

The project is part of the ‘Build Better More’ program of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr., spearheaded by DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, with the goal to build resilient communities through quality public infrastructures – protecting and improving Filipino lives.
