The mandate of the Police is to serve and protect the people. Not so. In Davao City, the police are brutal and have become the oppressors. They initially threatened and intimidated Kingdom of Jesus Christ churchgoers by jogging in full battle gear around the KOJC compound, even disturbing traffic.
In a move to serve the arrest warrant of the kingdom’s Pastor Quiboloy, more than 2,000 policemen led by the Regional Police Chief barged into and forcibly entered the compound, tear gassing the church people in the process. One churchman died and many others were injured. Sensors and jackhammers are being used to flush out Quiboloy who is suspected to be hiding underground in the compound. The holy place was desecrated and water and electricity was cut off. Christians are forgiving. If KOJC was a Mosque, the desecration would have surely led to bloodshed.
Desecrating a church – a holy place, driving away the owners and unlawfully occupying the place and use it as a garrison, just to arrest a person who is guaranteed legal relief to question in the courts the case against him and the arrest warrant, is a sure recipe for disaster.
When there is no one else to protect them, the people have the right to protect themselves collectively in whatever manner, hopefully without violence.
Very unfortunate that such happens today, National Heroes Day.
