ARMED ethnic group Arakan Army announced it took full control of Paletwa in Chin State on Sunday afternoon.
The rebel group has claimed control of the key western town after overcoming multiple military outposts.
Arakan Army claimed not a single military council camp was left in the entire Paletwa and it will take over administration and law enforcement in the area.
The seizure of Paletwa took place after another rebel group in the Three Brotherhood Alliance, the MNDAA, claimed control of Laukkai town in northern Shan State on the border with Chin.
The fall of the two towns took place a few days after Myanmar’s military agreed to a China-brokered ceasefire with an alliance of armed groups last week.
Rebel groups however claimed that junta forces breached the ceasefire on Sunday which started a new wave of fighting and tensions this week.
