SENATOR Robin Padilla strongly opposes the Senate’s investigation into Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ.
In an interview, Padilla stated that he does not want Filipinos to blindly follow America’s lead.
“That’s an American case. Pastor’s case is American. What is it? Like the ICC [International Criminal Court] as well? Are we going to be subservient to foreigners again? Is that how it’s going to be?” according to Sen. Robin Padilla.
Padilla mentioned that Senator Riza Hontiveros has the right to push for an investigation as a legislator, but he emphasized that he would not support allegations stemming from a foreign court’s investigation.
“We— especially me, feel uncomfortable when it’s a case involving foreigners. Andres Bonifacio would be offended. I really don’t want that. But if it’s in the Philippines, I can’t do anything. He’s a Filipino. [but] if we base it on another country’s court, no way,” he added.
Regarding the allegations of child abuse and sexual abuse, Padilla stated that the witnesses should also be investigated as there is a possibility that they are not telling the truth.
“We need to investigate the witnesses if they are telling the truth. You’ve been watching these hearings for a long time. There are few witnesses telling the truth here. They make a statement today, and the next day, their statement changes,” he stated.
On Monday, Hontiveros filed a resolution aiming to investigate the alleged large-scale human trafficking, rape, sexual abuse, violence, and child abuse against Pastor Apollo.
Well-known lawyer Atty. Ferdinand Topacio has already defended Pastor Apollo.
Topacio challenged filing a case against the respected Pastor.
“What Senator Risa Hontiveros is doing is deception because she says she wants to investigate these allegations of human trafficking. She claims to have witnesses against Pastor Quiboloy and The Kingdom of Jesus Christ group, but this matter should not be investigated in the Senate,” Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, said.
