WITH its strengthened checkpoint operations, the Task Force Davao confiscated 6,000 reams of smuggled cigarettes valued at Php 3,000,000 during the first quarter of 2024.
Col. Darren Comia, Commander of TF Davao, said in an interview with the City Information Office that an individual transporting these smuggled cigarettes was caught at the Sirawan checkpoint.
“Yung ibang items, smuggled cigarettes, Sirawan (checkpoint) [Other items that we confiscated, including the smuggled cigarettes, were caught in the checkpoint in Sirawan],” he said.
According to Comia, they already turned the seized items over to the Philippine National Police (PNP) for legal action, and all cases, including their other apprehensions, had already been filed in the proper courts.
Comia also assured the public that they will further strengthen their checkpoint operations and that there are no threats in the city.
Meanwhile, Comia also said that the majority of their apprehensions are from outside the city.
The TF Davao continued to urge Dabawenyos and those who wish to visit Davao to follow the safety and security protocols of the city. The public is encouraged to practice the culture of security being implemented in Davao and to cooperate with the security forces to maintain peace and order in the city.
