RESEARCHERS at Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence based in Abu Dhabi are making significant efforts to combat malaria a life-threatening disease primarily found in tropical countries.
The team aims to predict geographical areas vulnerable to the disease based on potential weather conditions, heat, and humidity.
This could be done by using new technology and data techniques as well as maximizing the capability of AI such as vision sensors and cameras to detect the location of mosquitoes and where they will migrate next.
The researchers hope their framework could also be used to fight other diseases besides malaria.
The latest data from the World Health Organization showed that an estimated 250 million people contract the disease every year.
The mosquito-transmitted disease killed 600,000 in 2021 alone.
