Xi Jinping unanimously re-elected as President of China

XI Jinping secured an unprecedented and historic third term after being reelected as the President of China.

Chinese President Xi Jinping will be serving another 5 years in office after being endorsed by the legislature in a ceremonial vote.

Xi secured an unprecedented third 5-year term in power on Friday at the ongoing session of the 14th National People’s Congress.

The voting was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, where Xi received a unanimous 2,952 votes followed by a standing ovation.

His candidacy was endorsed by the National People’s Congress, The Legislature, and Supreme Authority.

Xi’s victory means that he is now the longest-serving head of state of Communist China since its founding in 1949.

It can be noted that in 2022, Xi was re-confirmed in the key position of the Chinese Communist Party or CCP Leader.

Apart from being China’s President, Xi was also retained as chairman of the Central Military Commission, a position in charge of the overall administration of the Armed Forces of China.

During the ceremony, Xi took an oath, vowing to build a great modern socialist country.

Among the first foreign leaders to congratulate him was Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In a statement released by the Kremlin, Putin said, “Dear friend, please accept sincere congratulations on the occasion of your reelection. The decision of the Chinese National People’s Congress is a sign of the acknowledgment of your achievements as the head of state, as well as wide support of your policy focused on China’s socio-economic development and protection of its national interests on the global stage.”

Putin also recognized the contribution of Xi to the strengthening of ties and strategic cooperation between Russia and China.

Other leaders who congratulated Xi were Singapore President Halimah Yacob and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong who expressed confidence under the leadership of Xi.
